Barrow Farm - Local Attractions

World Heritage City of Bath © Bob Jagendorf

Barrow Farm is the perfect location to stay and use as your base for discovering this beautiful part of the west country.

The village of Rode made its name as a centre of excellence for wool milling in the 16th and 17th centuries, and in the 18th century a mill in the village created the dye "Royal Blue" after winning a competition to design a dress for Queen Charlotte. Today it has a thriving local shop and three pubs, all within walking distance.

The village is situated near the market town of Frome on the Somerset / Wiltshire border. The world heritage city of Bath is just ten miles away while the smaller towns of Warminster, Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon are close by.

Longleat Safari Park, Farleigh Hungerford Castle and Iford Manor are all within a few miles. Stonehenge, Stourhead, Lacock Abbey & Village & the Fox Talbot Museum, Dyrham Park, Bowood House & Gardens, Corsham Court and Wells Cathedral are all within 45 minutes.

The local area is good for walkers with the Mendips, Cotswolds and Salisbury Plain all with easy reach. The Macmillan Way passes through Rode, as does the Wiltshire Cycleway for cyclists. Dogs are welcome if kept on a lead and there are plenty of good dog walks close by.
